How to choose your Newborn Photographer
If you are reading this and just found out about your pregnancy, congrats! Life is about to change, in an exciting and good way. Becoming a parent is a huge blessing.
For the next few months there are decisions to be made, one of which is choosing a newborn baby photographer. Here I want to share some things to keep in mind when choosing your newborn baby photographer.
Start looking for a pregnancy and baby photographer early in your pregnancy
Start looking around who is in your area or how far you are willing to travel with your baby and possibly maternity photo shoot. There are many newborn baby photographers in Gauteng, with different styles, packages and studio setups. Look at a photographer with a style you like, newborn photography packages that suite you and obviously your budget. and on the budget, dont make a decision purely on budget. The window for newborn photos is very small, which will make it difficult to book another newborn photoshoot if you ended up not being entirely happy.
Baby's safety comes first
A lot of newborn photographers spend hours and hours doing training, whether in person or online. We train on safety, how to wrap baby, what to look out for and perfecting our skill set and more. Most newborn photographers never stop training. We continuously watch training videos, read up etc.
Be sure to fine someone you feel comfortable with to handle your little baby bundle.
Hire a photographer who's work you love
As mentioned before, there are many newborn photographers in Gauteng and we are all different with our own styles, workspace, setups newborn props. Look for a newborn photographer who's style you like, who you can identify with and you can envision your images on your wall at home and in baby's room. Some like a more natural style of posing and others do more prop poses or what we call the beanbag poses.
And discuss your likes with your photographer. Show them images from their website and social media, which you like the most.
Look at their studio space (if they have one)
We like to show off our studios from time to time and you will find videos on many of the websites or social media pages (social media is normally the easiest to upload a quick video taken with a phone).
Some newborn baby photographers, such as Monya Photography have a spacious studio where everything we need is close at hand. Other Newborn photographers rather travel to your home with limited prop items and lighting. There are pro's and con's to both and its for you to decide which you prefer. If you would like to come view my studio before you set an appointment, you are more than welcome to contact me and we set an appointment.
What are you planning to do with your photos once you receive them?
Let us know what your plans are. Are you planning to hang them on the wall in baby's room? What is the baby room colors? Or do you want to order a Photo Album? Or are you simply looking for digital files to share on social media.
Let you photographer know so they can plan your session accordingly. When it comes to displaying your images on the wall, we like the color to flow. And when printing in a photo album next to each other, for colors to blend.
Choosing a Newborn Photographer for your little bundle is a big step and hope this helped :)
