Hello and Congrats on the arrival of your precious little baby.
If you are reading this, you are probably considering to book a newborn photoshoot or you already booked your newborn photo shoot! That's great! I'm so looking forward to meet you.
Documenting these first few days are so important! And its what makes these sessions so popular.
A few things you might not expect from your newborn photography session
The first few weeks go so very fast. Before you know it baby is busy achieving milestones such as rolling, sitting, crawling, first steps and then running around your home. Babies develop so fast in the first 12 months and these are very special moments and memories.
Baby's first photoshoot
It is most preferable to see baby under the first 10 days, if possible, as they are normally still quite sleepy. This being said, each baby has their own personality and respond differently during their session. Some babies sleep the whole time, others part of the time and others are awake pretty much the whole time. And this is OK.
We do a lot of snuggling, wrapping and feeding to keep baby as calm and content possible. As long as I can pose baby, position hands and feet at times, its really fine if baby is open eyes or closed eyes. Sometimes babies are very interested in what goes on around them, and it is totally fine.
Most of the time during the session is spent soothing and posing. The actual photo snapping part is very fast. I do prefer to sooth baby, as not to disturb baby to much when passing from mom's loving arms to my hands. It's also easier for me to sooth them while I'm busy getting them read for the next pose.
At times I might also ask mom and dad to assist. Not to worry, I will edit you out of the photos ;)
Your session is also a time for you to relax a bit...and even take a snooze. Over the years I have had to odd parent taking a nap while the other parent follows the session. Its OK :)
As much as the focus is on gorgeous photos of baby, I also want you to enjoy the experience.
What about props for newborn photoshoot?
I do have a large collection of newborn photoshoot props. You do not need to bring anything, unless there is something special a granny made (just give me a heads up before the time, please).
I also like to make use of color in my sessions and tend to keep the setup relatively simplistic. For me, I want to keep the focus on baby and I find this is what works for my style.
All you need to bring is baby's nappy bag, and snacks if you feel the need to or eat on a regular schedule :) Its quite simple.
Newborn photoshoot with parents & siblings
This time is a very special time and its important to take family photos. Its baby's first photoshoot! And not to worry, I will pose you to look great!
Siblings are also included. These are often mom's favorite photos.
When you arrive I will have a bit of a chat with you all and with your older little one/s. From there I will let you know if I think we should start with baby and give the siblings a little time still, or if I think they are ready to jump into the sibling photos. Lets see how it goes, relax and dont let anyone get stressed out. In the end, we will capture personalities as they are ;)
